HISTORY
Cres and Losinj are separated at Osor because of trade. Losinj developed nautical tourism and shipbuilding till 19th century. First settlements on island Losinj developed in 1280. In 19th century first meteorological station was founded.
Mali Losinj was first time mentioned in 1398. as Small Village. In 1868. it has 11 shipyards.
Island Losinj was under many dominations like Italian, French, Austrian-Hungarian... Today it is part of Independent Republic of Croatia.

Losinj (Kvarner, Croatia) is an island that belongs to the group of Cres-Losinj`s islands. It is located in Croatian region Kvarner south from island Cres. Connection with mainland is very strong and often. You can come by ferry on Cres and from Osor to Losinj. You can also come by plane or a ship. Losinj is 11th largest island in the Adriatic, 33km long.
Island Losinj has many beautiful beaches. Highest peak is Osorscica (588 m high). Island Losinj and Cres used to be one island but they are divided by canal. Climate is Mediterranean with mild winters. Sea has higher temperature than the air during the autumn, winter and spring. Island Losinj has around 2600 sunny hours per year.

Veli Losinj (Large Losinj) is located on south part of island Losinj. It has around 1000 inhabitants. It used to be larger than Mali Losinj.
Nerezine is located on north part of island Losinj. It is fishermen settlement. It is known for building ships of wood.
